Full Question: I have noted in your book Visible Learning for Teachers, and other research, that we should not be evaluating how students learn by classifying their learning according to learning styles. Where I am getting stuck is on what method/model to replace learning styles with. In chapter 6 page 104 of the above book you talk about the various phases of learning. Would I be correct to assume that this would be a preferred method to view how students learn? How would I as a teacher review my "style" of learning?
Answer: “There is no support for learning styles (kinesthetic, etc.) and has been discarded so many times…Yes, the emphasis should be on learning strategies, and how we teach students these strategies. There is a major power in learning strategies but none in the style notion” (John Hattie, personal communication, February 23, 2018).
