Do data walls have the support of most (any?) esteemed education academics?

Full Question: Data walls. I am really concerned about this growing and not so well 'justified' trend in primary schools. Just seeking clarification: is this how you envisioned feedback to be promoted in schools as an effective teaching/learning enhancer? Do data walls have the support of most (any?) esteemed education academics? I am reading about the qualities of effective feedback and still left wondering…

Answer: “Data walls can be an excellent way of helping students progress BUT there needs to be a model of teaching that supports these, otherwise they can be another name and shame, I have so many schools introduce them very effectively (usually the parents are the hardest to convince) and Stonefields School is a stunning example (worth looking at the web site and videos of data walls in the class and in the staff room). It requires a way of teaching and then they truly make a positive difference. There are so many “esteemed” education academics that promote the research on them – the DuFours, Shirley Clarke, and others” (John Hattie, personal communication, July 5, 2016).
