Full Question: As a school we are currently discussing as a community, our expectations and guidelines around homework and want to make an evidence-based decision around this. Would you possibly have any examples of research/studies that identify the pros of cons for homework? I would greatly appreciate anything you can find or have.

Answer: “Overview – homework in primary close to zero, in high school d > 0.5. Why the difference – the nature of homework is more deliberate practice in high and just anything or worse projects in primary. If you get rid of it you will have a select group of parents revolt – so this is not my message. There was a great book by Richard Walker from University of Sydney last year and well worth getting as provides some excellent answers to you issue” (John Hattie, personal communication, April 9, 2017).
