Is there a bias when using effect sizes in favor of lower achieving students?

There could be a bias when the design of the test creates:

  • A ceiling which does not allow high achievers to show any progress;
  • When the students score close to zero on the first test; and,
  • If the pre- and post-test measures are of different difficulty (e.g., a hard then an easy test or vice versa.
